Our Team

Jay Bakhru
Founder and Managing Director

Jay Bakhru is the Founder and Director of Language Tailor.  Prior to founding Language Tailor, Jay worked as a financial services executive for Citigroup in Mexico City and New York and for Grupo Financiero Uno in San Jose, Costa Rica.  He formerly worked as a management consultant at Deloitte Consulting in New York City and as an English teacher in Osaka, Japan.  Jay is a Fellow at the Truman National Security Project focusing on Latin American foreign policy, a volunteer with the Grameen Foundation, a non-profit focused on poverty reduction and microfinance, and the Co-Chair of the Wharton Alumni Business Plan Competition.  He holds a B.A. from Brown University and an MBA from the Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania.



Brenda Barceló
Academic Director

Brenda Barceló, a Hispanic linguist and language instructor from Montevideo, Uruguay, is the Medical Spanish Academic Director and the author of the six-level Medical Spanish course for Language Tailor. She has over thirty years of experience in university-level Spanish language instruction and course design. She was born and raised in Uruguay where she taught English as a Second language for seven years before moving to the United States in 1987.

Professor Barceló has created and taught Medical and Professional Spanish courses at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she has been a Spanish Lecturer since 1995. She also designed and implemented her own professional and student research websites. She has worked as a Spanish/English translator for many years and is an associate member of the American Translators Association.

Traveling and dancing are two of her favorite pastimes. She is an accomplished tango dancer and has traveled in Europe, Africa, and South, Central, and North America extensively. She speaks Spanish, Portuguese, and English, and has a working knowledge of French and Italian. She is also the author of Nuestras culturas, an intermediate-level Spanish textbook.



Lidia Patricia Bustamante De la Garza
Spanish Instructor

Patricia Bustamante de la Garza, from Mexico City, Mexico, has extensive training in both medicine and language instruction. She attended Medical School in Mexico City for four years. She went on to study Rehabilitative Audiology and then obtained degrees in Foreign Language Instruction and Clinical Psychology. She has authored such papers as "Aspectos Psicológicos del Paciente Hospitalizado." and has held positions as language instructor, translator and psychotherapist.



Nuria Alonso García
Spanish Instructor

Nuria Alonso García is an Associate Professor of Spanish at Providence College Department of Foreign Language Studies, where she teaches courses in Spanish language and culture, linguistics, language methodology and global studies. She graduated from the Universidad de Oviedo, Spain, with a degree in Spanish Philology, and holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia in Madrid. She has published various articles in language acquisition and sociolinguistics, and authored a number of pedagogical materials for foreign languages. She is a co-author of Trato hecho, and Hoy día. Spanish for real life. published by Prentice Hall.
