The videos below are from Level 1 of our Medical Spanish course. Students will learn how to introduce themselves, greet patients, obtain personal information, ask about symptoms, and describe medical conditions. They will also learn the necessary terms to refer to the external parts of the body, family relationships, common illnesses, and different types of medication. Finally, they will acquire medical Spanish basic reading and listening comprehension skills, as well as cultural insights into the Hispanic world.
Each Medical Spanish lesson contains a brief blog post describing (in Spanish) the topic and a set of online comprehension excercises to complete after you've watched the video. Enjoy!
- Medical Spanish 1.1A: This video covers presentations, greetings, and farewells as well as words that help express courtesy.
- Medical Spanish 1.1B: This video covers how to gather personal information (e.g., name, address, insurance, etc.) from a patient. This lesson also teaches the basic numbers and counting from 0 to 2000.
- Medical Spanish 1.1C: This video introduces personal pronouns and basic verb conjungation in the present tense. Students will also learn about common medical problems and verbs that help in interactions with Spanish patients.
- Medical Spanish 1.2A: In this video you will learn some of the human body parts, definite articles <el-la-los-las>, the difference between masculine and feminine nouns, singular and plural forms of nouns. The student may begin to identify some exceptions to the rules of masculine and feminine nouns.
- Medical Spanish 1.2B: In this video we will continue studying the parts of human body focusing on the parts of the head, and the indefinite articles <un-una-unos-unas>. We will continue practicing the difference between masculine and feminine nouns, singular and plural forms of nouns and some exceptions to the rules of masculine and feminine nouns. At the end is a list of adjectives that will help students increase their vocabulary and begin to form small simple sentences.
- Medical Spanish 1.3A: In this video you will learn more human body parts, this time the parts of the hands. You will also learn vocabulary for some medical conditions and vocabulary for some common symptoms. By acquiring new vocabulary, you can begin to build better sentences and start to create conversations that help you communicate with patients.
- Medical Spanish 1.3B: In this video you will learn about the nationalities of several countries in Latinamerica. We will review the "gender" of nationalities (masculine, feminine and neutral), how to make negative sentences and questions using different personal pronouns.
- Medical Spanish 1.3C: This video talks a bit more about common symptoms. In this video, students will learn new vocabulary so you can start building more sentences with a variety of concepts. We will continue to practice the conjugation of the verb "to have" to start making complete sentences.
- Medical Spanish 1.4A: In this video students can continue learning the body parts, focusing on the parts of the foot. Students will also learn some simple questions to start a conversation with patients or any member of the hospital.
- Medical Spanish 1.4B: In this video students will learn vocabulary for family members. This new vocabulary will help students to address common everyday situations in the care of patients and their families. We also provide a quick overview of the verb "to be". Finally we introduce the question words "Who?" and "How?".
- Medical Spanish 1.5: In this video introduces some basic vocabulary for aches and pains. To do this, learn the verb "to hurt" and its conjugations, the use of indirect object pronouns and the negative. We also review vocabulary related to skin problems.
- Medical Spanish 1.6: In this video students learn more about conditions and medicines. We study vocabulary related to drugs and some verbs that will help students to increase their vocabulary and to create more sentences. We will see once again the verb "to have", but now with the conjunction (have to) that expresses obligation. At the same time, students will learn how to combine this structure with the demonstrative pronouns such as "this", "that", and "these".
- Medical Spanish 1.7: In this video students will learn how to use the verb structure "tener que". At the same time students will learn new vocabulary about medicines, parts of the hospital and the patients' conditions. In this video, students will study the verb "to be" (estar).
- Medical Spanish 1.8: In this video students will learn how to express existence. We will also see how to combine this structure with numbers and the indefinite articles "a", "an", and "some". The student will learn vocabulary related to objects and personnel in the hospital. Finally students will also learn a new word to ask questions: "Where?"
- Medical Spanish 1.9: In this video we will review tastes and preferences. We will also study indirect object pronouns such as me, you, you, us, them, and their negative use. Finally we learn more vocabulary suc as "When?", "Who?", some additional verbs, and a review of demonstrative pronouns.
